The Middle Peninsula Amateur Radio Club was founded in February 1988, and is affiliated with the American Radio Relay League, the national association of amateur radio operators. Our members have a wide variety of interests, including contesting, contacting DX stations, home-brewing and kit building, and emergency communications, to name a few.
Club meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM. We meet at the Abingdon Fire and Rescue building, 2676 Hayes Road in Hayes. Regular programs of interest follow short business meetings, which are open to all Amateur Radio operators, friends, and families. Anyone with an interest in Amateur Radio is welcome and encouraged to attend.
The club holds a special event each year in December, commemorating the capture of Captain John Smith by Chief Powhatan and his confederacy in 1607. More information about the event can be found here.
The biggest event of the year for MPARC is the Tour de Chesapeake, where members of the club provide radio communications support for the leisurely bike ride through Mathews County. We also participate in ARRL Field Day, held on the fourth full weekend in June.
Club membership is open to anyone with an interest in radio communications. While a member must hold an amateur license for full voting privileges, anyone can join as an associate member.
